Common questions
When should I issue a Payment Receipt?
Issue one whenever you receive a payment – cash, cheque, NEFT, UPI or card. It is your acknowledgement and the buyer’s proof of payment. Especially important for cash transactions where there is no digital trail.
Is a Payment Receipt the same as an Invoice?
No. An Invoice creates the demand for payment (what’s owed). A Payment Receipt acknowledges payment received (what was paid). The receipt typically references the invoice number.
Do I need to charge GST on a receipt?
No – a receipt is not a taxable supply. GST is charged on the original Tax Invoice. The receipt just acknowledges the money received.
Can I issue a receipt for partial payment?
Yes. Write the partial amount received and note “Towards Invoice [INV/…]”. Issue a fresh receipt for the next instalment.
Can I edit the template in Google Docs?
